Thank You KCJA
To the Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors,
I am writing to formally thank you for the wonderful support you have provided to the UMKC Conservatory of Music Jazz and Studio Music Program.

First, your recent donation of funds for our jazz scholarship program will make it possible for two students to continue in the jazz program. Second, on behalf of UMKC students Ryan Bennett, Kyle Dunn, Matt Pittman, Paul Roberts and Paul Schrage, thanks for the contribution you made to help underwrite their expenses for the International Summer Jazz Academy in Warsaw, Poland. You would have been extremely proud of the way these young men interacted with the Polish students, the success they enjoyed teaching every day, and the tremendous response they received for their outstanding concerts. They were truly Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors. A hearty "dziekuje bardzo" -- thank you very much -- from me and the Polish & American Youth Jazz Foundation.

As many of you know, I will be leaving UMKC in December to begin a new position as music department chair at Webster University in St. Louis. The assistance of the Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors has played a very important role in the success of the UMKC jazz program. I greatly appreciate the personal support you have given to me and the many ways you have "lifted the bandstand" for my students. I wish you continued success in all of your ventures supporting Kansas City jazz and look forward to following your activities on the 'net.

Keep swinging, and thanks for everything!

Sincerely,
Michael Parkinson, DMA
Director, Jazz Studies,

Kudos & A Link
Your web site has one of the best all-around jazz link sections I've found.

You might consider adding the Jazz Journalists Association's website (www.jazzhouse.org). Within it is a lot of neat stuff, including a jazz photography gallery and a mini-home page of mine that contains three photos and ordering information.

Regards,

From The Left Coast
Dear Dean,
I hope you remember me. Jerry Latzky from Los Angeles, a great fan of Karrin Allyson. I met you at Karrin's 1996 Collage recording. I hope all is well with you and that jazz, JAM, and the JAM web site have been increasing jazz listening in KC.

I really enjoyed the jazz scene in Kansas City when I was there; I hope to get back soon.
